Rebalance Earth is working to reverse this situation. We are developing business models which can reward landholders for storing water on their land, through targeted interventions which delay water from reaching towns downstream. These interventions - collectively called nature-based solutions [LINK to guide] - take a number of forms, targeting the wettest areas and thus leaving the majority of the land area free for agriculture. This allows farms to generate income from unproductive areas well as well as benefitting communities downstream, which enjoy a lower risk of flooding. 

To support this model Rebalance Earth identifies the businesses downstream which benefit from this reduced risk, and develops commercial relationships based on the increased resilience which these businesses benefit from.
