From commitments to measurable action.
What gets paid for can get built. A practical view on outcome-based Nature finance.
The first wave of corporate Nature strategy was about commitments: targets, frameworks, disclosures. The second wave is about action that someone can stand behind, measure and pay for.
Outcome-based payments do something specific. They translate a corporate need for resilience into a contracted cashflow that an investor can underwrite, and a project that a community can deliver. The mechanism is unfashionably simple: define the outcome, measure it, pay for it over time.
That structure is what turns Nature recovery into productive, place-based infrastructure. It is also what gives the asset class its discipline. What gets paid for can get built. What is not paid for, mostly does not.
